Sedimentary rocks are formed through the compression and consolidation of fragments or clasts of pre-existing minerals and stones, shaped and bound together over time by geological forces.Surprisingly, the CHROMA’s MERSUS process mirrors this natural formation, forging unexpected connections between nature and technology, past and present, the organic and the handmade.
Inspired by this analogy, the project proposes a collection of objects that evoke monolithic architecture, structures that, in prehistoric times, were composed by assembling diverse stones into imposing and symbolic forms.The aim is to highlight both the expressive potential of the material and the innovation of the production process.The pieces in the collection are designed using an additive approach, with the goal of minimising material usage.
The components of the objects are arranged within the slab using a nesting technique, allowing for optimal use of resources while significantly reducing off-cuts.
